Minnesota will get its first TOMS store in time for the holidays

Every time you buy a pair of TOMS shoes, they donate a pair to a child in need.

And pretty soon, you'll be able to buy them at the company's first Minnesota store – in the Mall of America.

The California-based company will open up shop for the holiday season, the mall announced in a news release Monday. (They did not provide an exact date for the opening.)

The store will occupy a 2,000 square-foot space located on the first floor of the mall's new wing on the north side, across from Zara (which also opens this holiday season), the release says.

'One for One'

The company operates on a "one for one" model – for every product they sell, TOMS will help a person in need, the TOMS website explains. Since it was founded in 2006, TOMS has given over 60 million pairs of shoes to children.

And the company doesn't just do shoes anymore – TOMS eyewear donates prescription glasses, medical treatment and/or sight-saving surgery with each purchase; backpacks and handbags help support safe birthing practices and give money to bullying prevention programs; and TOMS coffee roasting company has helped supply more than 335,000 weeks of safe water in six countries.

The Mall of America store will sell eyewear, men and women's apparel, and accessories. They'll also be serving their coffee and providing free Wi-Fi.
