Minnesota woman accused of embezzling $230K from church

A-50-year-old woman from Brooklyn Park has been charged with seven counts of felony theft by swindle after being accused of embezzling more than $230,000 from a regional church she worked at, the Pioneer Press reports.

Criminal charges say Raenay Liane Hendrickson stole the money by padding her paychecks and diverting money through other schemes while working as a bookkeeper for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America from July 1996 until July 2012.

The Minneapolis Area Synod includes 155 congregations in Anoka, Carver, Hennepin, Isanti, Scott, Sherburne and Wright counties.
