Minnesota woman goes into labor on flight, causes emergency landing
An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing in North Carolina Tuesday afternoon when a Minnesota woman went into labor mid-flight.
Shaniqua Cherry wasn't due for another two weeks, but her daughter apparently couldn't wait any longer, WSOC-TV says.
She started having contractions before boarding, but didn't think anything of it, WSOC says, but when her water broke mid-flight she knew it was time.
American Airlines Flight 611 from Philadelphia to Atlanta then made an emergency landing at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, WFMY reports.
Cherry was taken off the plane and gave birth soon after. Nyla LuLu was born at 1:35 p.m. in the EMS vehicle on the way to the hospital, reports say.
Flight 611 took off shortly after Cherry got off the plane and landed in Atlanta on time.
Cherry told WFMY she and her family, including three other children, are moving to Atlanta from Minnesota.
