Minnesotans to get together, grill for National Night Out

People across Minnesota are planning to gather and grill Tuesday night for the 30th annual National Night Out, an event designed to put residents in contact with their neighbors and local police in an effort to curb crime.

Nationwide last year, more than 15,000 cities and towns and more than 37 million people in 50 states participated in National Night Out events.

This year, neighbors in St. Paul are expected to dress in blue to show support for the city’s police officers. Last year in the city, there were about 300 National Night Out events, the city says. Here's a list of St. Paul events.

Minneapolis officials note that the city outranked all U.S. cities over 250,000 population for event participation in 2012, and there are more than 1,450 events in Minneapolis registered for this year. Live music and police exhibits are planned at Nine Flags Riverfront Park in Minneapolis, from 5 to 9 p.m. Here's the list of Minneapolis events.

FOX 9 has a list of Twin Cities events where free gun locks will be available.
