Two Minnesota children are back in foster care after their mother, who does not have custody, took off with them last week, prompting a nationwide alert, KAAL reports.

Police had said 21-year-old Reina Gandarilla took the 2-year-old and 4-month-old from a foster home in Pemberton last week, initially saying she was taking them to a doctor. But she never returned, and police have been looking for them.

The mother contacted authorities at about 2 p.m. Monday and wanted to turn herself in, Fox 9 reports. She was at a motel in Mankato.

She was taken to a Blue Earth County Jail. Police said the children were found in good health.
