MN woman celebrates 90th birthday by jumping out of an airplane
Now or never.
That's what Isabel Ollman thought when she decided to jump out of an airplane to celebrate her 90th birthday.
“It was just awesome,” Ollman, who turned 90 May 4, told the Austin Daily Herald. “I’m so glad I did it; it was the best experience in my life.”
Ollman, who has lived in Austin since the 1940s, was inspired to jump from a plane last year after seeing former President George H.W. Bush do it for his 90th birthday, the Albert Lea Tribune reports.
"On my 90th birthday, I just decided, now or never," Ollman told ABC 6. "My husband was a pilot. I flew with him sometimes and I've always loved flying, but I just thought I'd like to sky jump some day."
She and two of her grandchildren went on the skydiving adventure Saturday at the Waseca Municipal Airport to celebrate her big day. She jumped from the plane in tandem with an instructor, and the jump was captured on video using a Go-Pro camera. (Watch the video above.)
“The only thought that went through my head was, ‘Why am I doing this?’” Ollman told the Daily Herald. “But I know why I was doing it, I like adventure and I just had the best time ever.”
She recommends skydiving to anyone who has considered it, saying it was a wonderful experience – but she probably won't be doing it again, ABC 6 notes.
