Minnesota Department of Transportation contractors repaved an eight-mile stretch of Interstate 35 north of the Twin Cities, but MnDOT did not contract for shoulder improvements. So when the roadwork was done, there was a 5/8-inch drop-off to the shoulder. "It's a safety issue and we'll get on it right away," a MnDOT spokesman told the Star Tribune. He called it a rare mistake.
