MOA among nation's 25 ugliest buildings?

The Mall of America is still one of the most popular tourist draws in the nation, but it ain't much to look at. So says a group of architects who had cutting words for the shopping mecca blasted as one of "25 buildings to demolish right now."

The editors of California Home and Design magazine don't think much of Bloomington's shopping mecca. They blasted the expanding megaplex as among the most "eye-searingly awful" buildings in America.

One critic calls it the "poster child for quantity over quality." He goes on: "One has to wonder what the city itself might have been had these resources gone back to its downtown core."

In the end, the controversy over Cupcake was too much of a tempest in a teapot for owners of the popular pastry restaurant. After a year of fighting the city of St. Paul and neighbors over parking and and a liquor license, owner Kevin VanDeraa is pulling the plug on the Grand Avenue location. He is now headed to the Mall of America and will open the new shop next month, the Pioneer Press reports. VanDeraa says he lost $150,000 in an effort to bring the boutique eatery to the St. Paul area.
