The Chapel of Love at the Mall of America is among the locales that plan to perform same-sex weddings as soon as Minnesota's law legalizing gay marriage takes effect next Thursday, the Star Tribune reports.
Holli Bartelt and Amy Petrich of Wykoff are set to tie the knot at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 1 at the Bloomington mall. The newspaper notes the couple has been together for two years and recently became engaged at the megamall.
Meanwhile, it was a record-breaking day for marriage applications at the St. Louis County Courthouse on Friday -- the first day the county allowed same-sex filings. The Duluth News Tribune says 34 couples filed for licenses -- most of which were for gay marriages.
