Morning anchor Kelsey Soby announces departure from FOX 9

Morning anchor Kelsey Soby has apparently filmed her final show with FOX 9.

The news anchor, who was also the co-host of My29's "On The Fly" talk show, announced Thursday she is leaving the station after four years, and that Thursday morning's show would be her last.

She's given no indication at this stage what her next step will be.

The Star Tribune described Soby as a "Twin Cities rising star" and said her decision was "somewhat of a surprise."

A graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Soby started her career in the Tennessee Governor's Communications Office, according to her bio on FOX 9.

She was later a news anchor and reporter at KEYC-TV in Mankato and WDAY-TV in Fargo-Moorhead, before making the move to KMSP.

The Pioneer Press reports another departure from Twin Cities television was announced Thursday, with photojournalist Jonathan Malat leaving his spot at KARE-TV for a job at the TV2 television station in Denmark.

Malat was named Television News Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association last year, the newspaper notes, the third time he had won the award.
