Mother's tribute to 'loving and smart' pregnant daughter killed in Eagan

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody.

A woman eight months pregnant with her first child died in Eagan on Tuesday in what police suspect was a homicide.

Eagan police confirmed Wednesday morning 25-year-old Senicha Marie Lessman, of Eagan, died at the home on the 3100 block of Alden Pond Lane just before 3 p.m. Her 32-week-old fetus, a boy, also died.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and is being treated as a person of interest by police. GoMN does not identify suspects until they are charged.

In a statement released Wednesday, the victim's mother Margin Lessman said she is "devastated at the tragic death" of her daughter and unborn grandchild.

"She was a loving, kind, smart and beautiful young woman who was very excited to be a mother," she said. "She was loved greatly by all of her family, friends and coworkers."

"We will miss her more than words can say," she added. "We are asking for privacy while our family grieves during this difficult time."

Police say Lessman was "subjected to trauma" and despite life saving attempts by paramedics who arrived at the property, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to her Facebook page, Lessman is originally from Bulgaria and attended Burnsville High School. She lists both Panda Express and Old Navy as her employers.

She posted a picture of an ultrasound earlier this month saying: "Took a photo with a photo of my soon to be born son, the day he's born will be the greatest day."

The 23-year-old person of interest was picked up in Brooklyn Park just before 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the case at this time.
