One man was killed in a motorcycle crash this weekend in Chisago County.
According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the crash happened around 2:42 p.m. Saturday on Olinda trail in Chisago Lakes Township, near Lindstrom.
First responders performed CPR and lifesaving efforts on an adult male, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 61-year-old Bradley Wacholtz. The Star Tribune reports the crash happened about 9 miles northeast of Wacholtz's home in Scandia.
The sheriff's office did not say if Wacholtz was wearing a helmet, or if alcohol was involved in the crash.
Authorities say no passengers and no other vehicles are believed to be involved. The accident is currently under investigation.
Spring can be dangerous for riders
Officials say riders should be taking extra precautions at the beginning of this riding season, for a few reasons.
Among them: there’s sand an gravel on intersections and turns (spring street sweeping is just getting started); pavement is uneven; drivers aren’t used to seeing motorcycles on the road; and with temperatures cooler at night, snow runoff can freeze.
Riders are also asked to wear full, brightly-colored protective gear and a helmet. They’re encouraged to sign up for a training course too – you can find more information on those here.
