15-year-old Dean Allie only had his motorcycle a few days before it crashed through thin ice on Big Swan Lake in Dassel. Allie was thankful to make it out of the lake himself on that day back in 1956. He figured not seeing the bike again was the price he'd have to pay.
Until a commercial fisherman recently recovered the motorcycle and tracked down its original owner. The German-made 1938 motorcycle is not driveable, but is in surprisingly good shape for having spent 56 years on the bottom of a lake. It's now being restored in hopes of putting it on display at trade shows.
The story was reported earlier this month by the Dassel Cokato Herald Journal.
