The motorcyclist who struck and seriously injured a 4-year-old boy as he sped recklessly through St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood has been sentenced to time served, the Pioneer Press reports. Ernest Jonas, 25, of St. Paul, who fled the scene of the May 19 accident, was to be released from jail Tuesday.
Prosecutors had asked for a 365-day sentence, KARE 11 reports.
Relatives were frustrated and angry.
Marcella Scroggins-Phillips, Tyrell’s grandmother, is devastated by Ernest’s release, WCCO reports.
“It just breaks my heart that that guy can go home tomorrow,” she told the station.
