Residents gathered along the Mississippi River to watch the main span of the new Hastings bridge move for its journey down the river, KARE 11 reports. The 545-foot span is scheduled to be lifted into place next Wednesday. The four lane bridge should be open to two lanes of traffic by early next summer.

The Hastings Star Gazette has been documenting this historic event. A little movement can be seen from Friday's action in a time lapse video.
