Mpls. chef finalists fall short of James Beard award
The Twin Cities area struck out Monday night at this year's James Beard Foundation restaurant and chef awards, the Business Journal reports.
Two finalists from Minneapolis -- Jack Riebel, the chef and co-owner of Butcher & the Boar, and Michelle Gayer, the chef and owner of Salty Tart -- made the final cut for the best chef in the Midwest. However, the trophy went to Colby Garrelts of Bluestem in Kansas City.

Twin Cities-based chef and TV personality Andrew Zimmern won the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Personality/Host” for his Travel Channel show "Bizarre Foods America." Daniel Klein and Mirra Fine, producers of "The Perennial Plate: Real Food World Tour," also won for best on-location video webcast.
Kramarczuk’s sausage shop in Northeast Minneapolis was one of five restaurants in the country honored with the James Beard American Classics Award this year.
