Interstate 35NB reopened in Lakeville after multi-vehicle pileup

Publish date:

A pileup involving up to 50 vehicles closed northbound Interstate 35 in Lakeville near County Road 50 for more than two hours Friday afternoon, but the interstate was reopened at about 3 p.m.

Emergency responders were on the scene, but injury reports were not immediately available. At least one car was flipped over, WCCO reported.

Semitrailer trucks were among the vehicles involved, the Star Tribune reports.

Traffic was backed up for up to five miles as tow truck operators scrambled to clear the scene. Falling snow and the icy roads were likely factors in the initial crash at about 12:45 p.m. in the chain-reaction pileup, the Star Tribune reports.

More specifically, MnDOT said the snowy crash scene was between exit 81: 210th Street West and exit 84: 185th Street.
