North Dakota man accused of trying to kill neighbor with tomahawk

A West Fargo man is accused of trying to kill his neighbor with a tomahawk, Forum News Service reports.

Kokouvi Mawuena Afidegnon, 30, was charged with one count of Class AA attempted murder in Cass County District Court Monday. He's also charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, one count of aggravated assault, one count of criminal mischief and one count of misdemeanor simple assault.

West Fargo police were called to a disturbance in at an apartment building in the city Friday evening on a report of a woman screaming and being hit in the head with a hatchet or hammer. When they arrived, the victim was reportedly covered in blood and holding a rag to her head injuries. A neighbor told police he witnessed the woman leaving the apartment, then heard her scream and saw Afidegnon hit the woman in the head with the tomahawk, Forum News Service says.

According to Valley News Live, the victim told police that she ran to a nearby house to escape when the man threw the hatchet through a window in the home.

The man is also accused of stalking his neighbor, and knocking down another woman who was trying to intervene in the incident, Valley News Live says.

Afidegnon was arrested and his bail set at $100,000 cash, Forum News Service says. His next court appearance is June. 4.
