The website for Eagan's Convention and Visitors Bureau announced that the new Twin Cities Premium Outlets, now under construction, will officially open for business on August 14.

The new mall, with an estimated 440,000 square feet of retail space, will feature 100 stores, including notable brands Calvin Klein, the Gap, Lucky Brand Jeans, Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. The developer has said the $100 million mall is 90 percent occupied. Adjacent to the mall will be restaurants, a park and public transportation access.

Between the construction workers and retail employees, the project will create an estimated 2,000 new jobs.

The new center is located near the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway77/Cedar Avenue. Last week, the Pioneer Press reported the city has hired a consultant to develop a "travel demand management plan" for traffic issues that might pop up on opening day and other anticipated high-volume, power-shopping times, like Black Friday. The city council will review the traffic plan in mid-May.

The mall is expected to be a regional draw because of its proximity to the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. It also will the only outlet mall within the seven-county metro area. (Albertville Premium Outlets and North Branch Outlets are outside that area.)

The Eagan Convention & Visitors Bureau will spend more than half of its estimated $900,000 budget for 2014 for a marketing campaign tied to the outlet mall.
