New list: Top 10 Minnesota cities (and it's not the big ones)

Publish date:

Most of the 10 "best places in Minnesota" are in the greater Twin Cities area – but neither Twin City made the list, according to a new ranking from the real estate blog Movoto. The list:

1. Chanhassen
2. Lakeville
3. Plymouth (tie)
3. Maple Grove
5. Hugo
6. Ham Lake (tie)
6. Rogers
8. St. Michael
9. Woodbury (tie)
9. Eden Prairie

Here are the criteria used for the new ranking:

Unemployment rate
Cost of living
Crime rate
High school graduation rate
Median household income
Median home price
Median rent price

Movoto's new list is considerably different from a ranking the blog did in October, which ranked the 10 biggest cities in Minnesota by how livable they are (cost of living, amenities, crime rates, education, employment, weather and the housing market).

Chanhassen also was No. 4 on a nationwide "Best Places to Live" list by Money magazine, released in August.

Movoto, which aims to connect buyers with real estate agents, is the same blog that said Minneapolis was among the top 10 cities for movie lovers and among the nation's nerdiest cities.
