New metro brewer starts crowdfunding campaign to build taproom

OMNI Brewing has just about everything a new brewery needs to get up and running – an industrial workspace, a 15-barrel brewing system, and a diverse menu of original beers.

The one thing it lacks is a place for customers to sit and taste the beer.

The startup company, located in an industrial park in Maple Grove, is asking for help funding a taproom – $25,000, to be exact, according to its Kickstarter page.

"We have used all our resources to purchase a building and buy brewing equipment," OMNI says. "However, the taproom space still needs renovations to be a comfortable place to taste our beer. "

The company says it plans to use the funds to build a "great bar" (including buying tables, chairs and stools), and to purchase "games and entertainment" for guests.

As of Wednesday morning, OMNI has gathered over $7,400 in donations.

For their trouble, donors can earn a wide assortment of gifts (from OMNI table coasters to T-shirts) or "memberships" that will allow them special privileges at the new taproom, depending on how much they contribute.

The "OMNI Founders Club" – the highest-level membership awarded to those who pledge $500 or more – features a wide array of perks and will let donors sit in on annual board of directors meetings.

The brewery has until July 21 to riase the $25,000.

The Pioneer Press notes the taproom would be the "first in the northwest suburbs" of the Twin Cities.

According to OMNI's website, it is shooting for an August 2015 opening.

Omni is the brainchild of Justin Walsh and Zack Ward, who describe themselves as a "beer nerd" and a "beer connoisseur," respectively.
