A popular New Prague middle school teacher who spent more than 30 years in the district died Sunday while shoveling snow, local media reported. Indications suggest 54-year-old social studies teacher Matt Shetka had a heart attack, KARE 11 reports.
Shetka was also a successful coach. He led gymnastics teams to three state championships and two girls golf teams to state titles. Shetka is survived by a wife and four sons, Fox 9 reports.
Doctors are reminding people not to overdo it when shoveling. The Pioneer Press reports that emergency room physician recommends people loosen their muscles before shoveling, as well as scooping small shovelsful of snow and taking frequent breaks.
