New Year's Day 2017: Which stores are open, closed, or closing early
It's New Year's Day– a federal holiday, meaning we've got some closures and different hours for stores.
Though there aren't as many changes as normal. Since Jan. 1 is on a Sunday, a lot of the stuff that would be closed for the holiday (government offices, the post office, lots of banks, etc. etc.) is already closed simply because it's Sunday.
But some normally-open-Sunday stores will have different hours. Here's a quick look at some of the more popular stores in Minnesota:
Target
Open at 8 a.m., and likely closing early. Target stores usually shut down at 10 or 11 p.m., but many will be closing at 9 p.m. on New Year's Day, AL.com says.
Though it's best to find your store online and check the hours – just to be sure.
Best Buy
The electronics retailer is opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. on New Year's Day, according to most store hours on the website. But check your local one to be sure.
Best Buy Mobile locations are closing even earlier, anywhere from 4 to 6 p.m. it looks like.
Cub
Most Cubs appear to be open normal hours for New Year's Day. But it can't hurt to call and double check.
Walmart
Regular hours for all locations, AL.com says.
Mills Fleet Farm
Fleet Farms will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Day, their website says.
Costco
Closed. It's one of seven holidays the chain is closed for.
Sam's Club
Also closed for New Year's Day.
Whole Foods
AL.com says they'll be open 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Trader Joe's
Totally closed for the day.
Shipping things
Both FedEx and UPS are closed Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 2017. As is USPS, which doesn't normally deliver Sundays anyway.
