Newspaper group to shutdown Hibbing plant, 54 workers losing jobs

Author:

A plant in Hibbing that prints several newspapers in Minnesota's Iron Range will be closed by the end of March, Mesabi Daily News reports. The closure will affect 54 full- and part-time employees.

The Associated Press says Texas-based American Consolidated Media will shift publication of the Mesabi Daily News, Hibbing Daily Tribune, Grand Rapids Herald-Review, Chisholm Free Press, and Manney's Shopper to the Duluth News Tribune's new state-of-the-art facility on April 1.

Laid-off workers will receive a severance package and can apply for positions with Forum Communications, which owns the News Tribune.
