Stargazers in Minnesota got a special treat Tuesday night -- an unexpected show of Northern Lights, according to skywatching blogger AstroBob in Duluth, Minn.
"A complete surprise," he said, noting that the display was not in the forecast.
"The Northern Lights suddenly showed about 8:30 p.m." and lasted well into the early hours of Wednesday.
Photographers from Grand Forks, N.D., Michigan, Minnesota and south to central Illinois posted pictures of the lights on various Internet and social media sites.
A photographer from FOX 9, Gregg Kellogg, posted several photos he took Tuesday night in East Bethel, Minn.
It's possible the lights will be visible again Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
