O.J. Simpson's former longtime girlfriend Christie Prody will serve 45 days in jail after striking a plea deal with prosecutors in a prescription theft case in Moorhead, The Associated Press reports.
Prody, 38, of Moorhead, pleaded guilty last month to charges of burglary and drug possession after she was accused of stealing drugs from an elderly couple in whose home she worked as a nursing assistant.
The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead said that after Prody was "comfortable" with the sentence she received in Clay County District Court, and that she had to next focus on her little girl.
The paper said Prody will serve 34 days in jail, with 11 days credit of time already served. She also was sentenced to 10 years probation and $1,000 fine.
Prody asked the judge if she could report to jail Monday. Her mother, whom Prody and her 2-year-old daughter live with, was unavailable this weekend to provide care for the child, the Forum reported.
KFGO-AM reports Prody said she is doing everything she can to "better" herself, and is also focusing on staying sober and rebuilding her relationship with God.
Prody's attorney Ken Kludt, said his client was addicted to methamphetamine and oxycodone.
Prody was in 13-year relationship with Simpson after the NFL Hall of Famer was acquitted in the 1994 slaying of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles.
Simpson is currently serving time in prison in Nevada for armed robbery and kidnapping, stemming from a 2007 incident in Las Vegas.
The 65-year-old former NFL star appeared in court last month seeking a new trial.
