Former Minnesota DFL congressman Jim Oberstar is among those on a long list of potential Transportation Secretary nominees, compiled by Governing magazine. Oberstar, who led the House Transportation committee for four years, is "held in the highest regard in transportation circles" and few know the issues better than he does, Governing says.

But the magazine also notes that at 78, Oberstar's moment may have passed.

Oberstar was a 36-year veteran of Congress and was upset in 2010 by the GOP's Chip Cravaack.

Last month, Oberstar said he was underwhelmed by President Barack Obama's transportation policies (and not impressed with Mitt Romney either), MinnPost said.
