Somalis protest by closing bank accounts

A group of Twin Cities Somalis are frustrated with banks no longer willing to transfer money to Somalia. In response, Somali-American customers are removing their money and closing bank accounts. They want banks to restore the wire service to Africa. Banks fear the money transfers could violate anti-terror regulations.

U.S. Bank closes U.C. Davis branch because of 'Occupy' protesters

The Minneapolis-based bank closed a branch at the University of California-Davis campus because of "several weeks of business interruption" that a spokeswoman said threatened the safety of employees and customers.

U.S. Bank latest bank to raise overdraft fees

U.S. Bank is bumping up overdraft fees for all its accounts beginning June 29, the Minneapolis-based bank confirmed Wednesday. The bank's new $35 overdraft fee brings it in line with the country's biggest financial institutions, including Bank of America, Huffington Post reports. Bank officials note that the 15 million-customer bank is eliminating one other fee and lowering yet another.

OccupyMN protesters' tents confiscated by police

Authorities confiscated more than two dozen tents that were set up outside the Hennepin County Government Center plaza early Sunday. Demonstrators plan to erect more tents across the street from Government Plaza in U.S. Bank Plaza.

Two arrested in Minneapolis at OccupyMN

Michael Anthony Bounds and Devin Lee Wynn-Shemanek, both 19, were arrested Saturday evening during an OccupyMN protest in a foreclosed home in south Minneapolis. Authorities have not revealed why the two were taken into custody.

OccupyMN protesters occupy foreclosed home

The TC Daily Planet is reporting some demonstrators connected to the OccupyMN movement have occupied a foreclosed home in north Minneapolis to keep the residents from being evicted. The protesters say they intend to stay in the home and in tents on the property until U.S. Bank agrees to renegotiate the mortgage. They say they will resist if authorities try to forcefully evict the residents.

Feds close Minnesota bank

The FDIC shutdown Patriot Bank in Forest Lake Friday. First Resource Bank in Savage agreed to take over the assets and deposits from the failed Minnesota bank. There have been seven U.S. bank failures in 2012. Patriot Bank is the first to fail in Minnesota this year.
