Officer in critical condition, police surround home, suspect ID'ed

A man reportedly shot a police officer during a domestic call in Lake City today. Sources say the officer is in critical condition. Police have surrounded a home where they believe the suspect is residing.

A man reportedly shot a police officer during a domestic call in Lake City on Monday morning. The Post-Bulletin reports the officer was shot in the head and is in critical condition.

The Pioneer Press reports police have identified the suspect as Alan J. Sylte Jr., 25, of Hager City, Wis.

The Post-Bulletin says officers from various agencies have surrounded a home where they believe the suspect is residing, and have called in a tactical response team and a negotiator.

Shawn Schneider was shot in the head while responding to a call about a domestic dispute. Officers are expected to come from all over the Midwest and Canada for the funeral.

Funeral set for slain Lake City officer

Family and friends of Lake City police officer Shawn Schneider will gather this Saturday, January 7. His funeral is set for 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City. Officer Schneider was shot during a domestic dispute two weeks ago. The 32-year-old remained in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for 11 days before he died of his injuries Friday.

Fallen police officer comes home

A procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted the body of officer Shawn Schneider back to Lake City Saturday. Schneider died Friday evening at Mayo Clinic in Rochester from a gunshot wound suffered on duty.
