A 22-year-old man died after being found unresponsive in a hotel pool early Sunday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and the Duluth Police Department were called to the Radisson Hotel in Duluth at 1:17 a.m., where the found the man unresponsive in the pool, a news release says.

The Newport, Minnesota, man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is still under investigation, but the sheriff's office says alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in his death.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website shows there were 29 non-boating drownings in Minnesota in 2014, the latest year of data available.

For adolescents and adults, alcohol use is involved in up to 70 percent of deaths associated with water recreation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says, noting alcohol influences balance, coordination and judgement.
