Officials: Driver was drunk when man was thrown to his death from pickup truck

Publish date:

A man died after being thrown from a pickup truck early Sunday morning, and now the driver could face charges.

The men were driving off of Neander Lake in Fish Lake Township just before 2 a.m. Sunday when the victim, identified as Bradley Michael Nugent, was thrown off the truck, the Chisago County Sheriff's Office says.

When deputies arrived, they found three men doing CPR, but Nugent was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Star Tribune says Nugent, a Minnetonka man in his 30s, was riding in the bed of the pickup truck before he was thrown to his death.

Investigators determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol, the release says. He was arrested for criminal vehicular homicide, but hasn't been officially charged.

According to Minnesota's Toward Zero Deaths initiative website, 51 people have been died in traffic incidents on state roads so far this year. At this time last year, there were 31 fatalities.

The Department of Public Safety says alcohol played a factor in 31 percent of fatal crashes in 2014, the latest report available.
