A man wanted for a felony stole a police vehicle and led officials on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph on Thursday.
It all started when police went to a Mankato home to arrest a 38-year-old Preston man who had an outstanding felony arrest warrant, a news release says. But the suspect had other ideas.
The man got into an altercation with an officer, according to the Mankato Free Press, before stealing a squad SUV and fleeing, the release says.
Officials from several agencies pursued the stolen SUV for about 25 miles, with the Mankato Free Press reporting the chase reached speeds of up to 130 mph.
Eventually officials used spike strips to pop the vehicle's tires, ending the chase in rural Waldorf, the release says.
The suspect got out of the SUV and ran "a short distance," the release says, but was then taken into custody in a nearby cornfield, the Mankato Free Press reports.
The suspect is being held on the outstanding warrant, and he could also be charged with theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing police, the release says.
