The Como Zoo has a new baby zebra.

Minnie, a Grant's Zebra, gave birth to the foal overnight Saturday. When zookeepers got there Sunday morning, they found the foal walking around and closely shadowing its mother.

"There were no complications and mother and baby appear to be doing great," Allison Jungheim, Senior Zookeeper at Como Zoo, said in a news release.

The zoo hasn't determined if the zebra is a boy or a girl, and the animal hasn't been named yet – the name of the animal will be picked after a silent auction to benefit the zoo on July 21.

The zebra has made its public debut, and can be seen with its mom in the outdoor Zebra and Kudu exhibit at the zoo.

This was Minnie's second baby.

More about Grant's Zebras

The gestation period for Grant's Zebras ranges from 10-12 months, and after the foal is born it takes between nine and 18 months for the zebra's stripes to turn from brown to black.

A baby zebra can stand about 20 minutes after birth – and run an hour later. A zebra can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.

Grant's Zebras are commonly found in the grassy plains of eastern Africa, including Kenya and Ethiopia.

They can live up to 25 years in the wild.

A group of zebras is called a zeal.
