Melanie Ford is elected St. Louis County attorney, defeating incumbent Alan Mitchell who had held the post for 28 years.

Mitchell ran unopposed until Ford ran against him in 2006, and it took a recount that concluded a month after the election to find Ford the winner by just 88 votes.

Ford and Mitchell both practice law in Duluth, and Ford was defeated by Mark Rubin for the county attorney seat in 2010, which he still holds today.
