Three Herberger's stores threatened with closure in Minnesota may only have a few months left to survive.

Parent company The Bon-Ton Stores told the State of Minnesota last week that it was considering closures at its Roseville, Stillwater and Bloomington stores, as well as a Younkers in Duluth.

Now it's working quickly to find a buyer for The Bon-Ton to secure the future of its retail chains including Herberger's.

It told Bring Me The News it's currently in "active discussions with an investor group to acquire the Company in a court-supervised sale process."

But the company has had to give advance notice to 650 Minnesota employees that their stores could be closing, with the Pioneer Press reporting that they could close as early as June if a buyer can't be found.

In its statement to BMTN, a spokesperson said: "We are encouraged by the interest in Bon-Ton and we hope that jobs will be preserved through a sale process.

"We remain committed to pursuing the best path forward for the Company and its stakeholders, including Bon-Ton associates."

Herberger's currently has around 20 stores in Minnesota, most of them outside the Twin Cities. The Bon-Ton filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.
