Ahh, what a sight the U.S. Capitol is for sore eyes.
The only problem? That's not the U.S. Capitol building, but the Wisconsin State Capitol in downtown Madison.
Many of you will have noticed that, but several hotels in Washington D.C. didn't, according to the Washington Post.
The picture was used for the websites of the George Washington Inn, Avenue Suites Georgetown and One Washington Circle Hotel, with parent company Modus Hotels pulling the pictures after being told of its mistake, saying the photo selection was "an accident."
Someone on Reddit pointed out another hotel company that used the image, the Navy Yard Hampton Inn and Suites, and the Post also found it being used by a Holiday Inn in Hyattsville.
The photo is the work of Rudolf Balasko and is available for commercial use to subscribers of Getty-owned stock image site iStock.
The surrounding buildings should have given it away, but in fairness the design of the Wisconsin State Capitol building, which was finished in 1917, takes inspiration from the U.S. Capitol building, which saw its dome finished 51 years earlier, according to the Architect of the Capitol.
