Oops: ESPN got the Wild's record last year totally wrong

ESPN once again underestimates a Minnesota team.

Not that Minnesota sports fans needed more evidence that we do in fact live in a fly-over state, but we were provided a little more from a major sports network Thursday.

The network that likes to fashion itself as "The Sports Leader" has apparently forgotten to fact-check another story involving a Minnesota professional sports team.

During ESPN's preview for tonight's Minnesota Wild season-opener at St. Louis, they included this little nugget about Minnesota's offseason:

"Thursday night's game will be the season-opener for the Wild, whose biggest offseason change was bringing in a new coach, Bruce Boudreau, who was fired after coaching Anaheim for five years. Boudreau's first task is to try to get the Wild back into the playoffs, after they finished fifth last year in the Central Division and failed to advance to the postseason for the first time in five years."

It would be great – if it were true.

While the Wild did change coaches last winter when they fired Mike Yeo, the team turned it around enough under interim coach John Torchetti to make the the playoffs – only to lose to Dallas in six games.

It's similar to a mistake the network made last spring when they claimed the Green Bay Packers were looking to defend their NFC North Division title from last season – even though the Vikings actually won the division.
