Oops! Target offends plus-size women with 'manatee' dress

Author:

Target Corp. is apologizing for a not so flattering word used to describe a woman's dress on its website, Forbes reports.

A savvy shopper discovered the Minneapolis-based retailer offered a plus-size version of a Mossimo dress in "Manatee Gray," while the exact same dress in standard sizes was described as "Dark Heather Gray."

“We apologize for any discomfort this might have caused and are working to update the name of the dress to reflect Dark Heather Gray,” Target spokesman Joshua Thomas told Forbes. “This was an unfortunate oversight and we’ll take it into consideration moving forward.”

He added that "Manatee Gray" is a standard color used to describe other Target products, including regular and petite sizes.
