Opposing sides make push toward marriage vote
Former GOP lawmaker Tom Emmer was named the Minnesota chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition Friday. Emmer will head up state efforts to "restore America’s greatness and founding principles."
Mark Dayton will be among a panel of guests Monday during a fundraiser organized by Minnesotans United for All Families. The group is working to defeat the proposed constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
Duluth residents on both sides of the issue are organizing and bracing for the ongoing debate.
State finance regulators ruled Thursday that campaign ads for or against the amendment must disclose the financial backers behind them.
A case against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis was thrown out Friday. Minneapolis attorney Kurt Anderson filed the complaint after receiving a DVD urging church members to vote supporting the ballot measure.
Anderson says the church failed to register as a lobbyist, political fund or a principal; the Archdiocese says the DVD's were used to inform church members of an important social issue.
