Optical illusion allows visitors to stand atop the IDS Center – from the ground
If you've been in IDS Center in the last two days, you may have noticed an artist feverishly at work in the atrium of Minnesota's tallest building.
That was award-winning artist Shawn McCann, who has been creating a large-scale, indoor painting which FOX 9 reports is "his version of the future of Minneapolis."
The 3D-painting provides viewers with an optical illusion, making it seem as if people are standing on top of McCann's rendering of the IDS Center.
The artwork was created to mark the centennial of The Minneapolis Foundation – a charitable organization that provides funding to improve communities of the greater Minneapolis area by providing grants for arts and culture, education and civic engagement programs, among others
In its year of inception, 1915, the foundation provided $25,000 of funding for community projects. Last year, the group distributed $47 million in grants.
The IDS mural will remain in place at the center until Friday night, and visitors are encouraged to have their pictures taken and share them on social media with the hashtag #Mpls100.
