Paisley Park is looking for artists to compete in a 'Battle of the Bands'

It's a four-night event over Labor Day weekend.

Paisley Park is looking for artists to battle it out in a competition for "real musicians."

The four-night event, Musicology, will be held over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 to Sep. 3. Each night, three different bands or artists will play on Prince's legendary Sound Stage, and a winner will be chosen.

Then the three winning artists will advance to a final battle on Sunday, Sept. 3. One artist will be crowned the champion and score a "unique" award package.

"This unique live performance event will highlight 'Real Music by Real Musicians' – an ethos Prince consistently championed through his life, creative works and incendiary live performances," the release says.

Paisley Park says the event is a throwback to battles that were commonplace between bands in north Minneapolis in the 1970s.

Tickets to Musicology are now available at, and they're pretty pricey at $100 per night. But attendees will also get admission to the Paisley Park museum tour and dance parties that follow the nightly performances.

How to enter the competition

One of the prizes the champion will receive is pretty cool: studio recording time at Paisley Park.

They'll also get a mentorship session with members of Prince's former backing band, New Power Generation, and "additional career development opportunities" that haven't been announced yet, the release says.

Musicians who want to enter for a chance to compete are asked to send in video submissions here by July 30.

Artists must live in the United States and be at least 18 and older, or 13 and older with parental consent.
