Parts of Minneapolis interstates to close this weekend

Parts of Interstate 94 and Interstate 35W in downtown Minneapolis will be closed Friday night through early Monday morning as crews work on a reconstruction project on the Park and Portland Avenue bridges.

Minnesota Twins fans should note that their travel could be complicated for weekend games against the Baltimore Orioles at Target Field, the Star Tribune notes.

Motorists will have to follow posted detours. Here are the pain points, according to MnDOT:

Southbound I-35W between the Hwy 55 and the I-94/35W split

Eastbound I-94 between the I-35W/94 split and Hwy 55

Westbound I-94 between Hwy 280 and the downtown exits

In addition, northbound I-35W between the downtown exits and Hwy 280 in Roseville will close at 10 p.m. Friday, May 10.

Here's more info on the project and closures from MnDOT.

The weekend closures are designed to lessen the number of daily non-rush hour lane closures, MnDOT officials say.
