According to the incident report, an 18-year-old from Inver Grove Heights was driving a 1987 Jeep Wrangler on Highway 52, just north of County Road 42, in Rosemount Sunday.
The Jeep was heading southbound around 2:30 p.m. when its topper blew off.
John Ostrom, in a Ford pickup also heading southbound at the time, hit the topper and pulled to the left shoulder. The 46-year-old from Fountain, Minnesota, got out of the car and was standing in the grassy median ditch, the report says.
At that point a third vehicle – a Buick Park Avenue driven by a 30-year-old Mazzeppa woman – swerved to avoid stopped traffic. The Buick Park Avenue struck and killed Ostrom on the shoulder.
No alcohol was detected on any of the three drivers.
