Paynesville man arrested, accused of murdering his grandparents

The 33-year-old was arrested Thursday after his grandparents' bodies were found.

A Paynesville man has been arrested in connection with the killing of his grandparents.

Wilbert (Willie), 93, and Gloria Scheel, 80, were reported missing Wednesday after the elderly couple failed to show up for a dinner party. Their 33-year-old grandson was also reported missing.

On Thursday, the elderly couple were found dead inside their 2011 Toyota Prius in Kandiyohi County, with their bodies discovered inside under carpet, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

The younger Scheel, who lived with his grandparents, was spotted walking south of where the Prius was found a few hours later.

He was picked up by police and arrested on probable cause 2nd-degree intentional murder.

He has not been formally charged yet.

The trio had last been seen at Teal's Market in Paynesville around Wednesday lunchtime, and it was noted the grandson failed to show up for work that evening.
