Buildings that changed America? Put Southdale on the list
A new PBS documentary, called "10 Buildings that Changed America," turns the national spotlight on Southdale Center Sunday night, America's first modern enclosed regional mall, the Edina Patch reports.
The Edina shopping center opened in 1956 and became the blueprint for similar structures across the country, according to the Pioneer Press.
The one-hour program, which explores architecture that shaped the American landscape, will air Sunday, May 12, at 9 p.m. on PBS.

Southdale completed a multimillion dollar renovation project last fall with hopes of attracting new attracting tenants and shoppers.
Other structures being featured on the PBS documentary include Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia State Capitol and Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
