Pedestrian, 21, killed in northwest Minnesota hit-and-run, suspected driver charged

A man is in custody.

A pedestrian has died in a hit-and-run crash in Becker County, Minnesota.

The Becker County Sheriff's Office reports that 21-year-old Joshua Charles Jones, of Ponsford, died at the scene following the incident at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The driver fled the scene, but police found the vehicle involved later Thursday evening at a home in Pine Point.

Three men were taken into custody, but only one of them remains in custody with the other two released pending further investigation.

A 47-year-old man from Ponsford is awaiting formal charges.

Pedestrian deaths fell last year

2017 was a safer year on the roads in Minnesota for pedestrians and, in fact, all road users.

The 38 pedestrian deaths last year was a huge drop from 2016, when 60 pedestrians were killed.

That was the highest number seen in the state since 1991.
