Pedestrian deaths spike in Minnesota

Twenty-three pedestrians have been killed so far by vehicles in 2012, making it the deadliest year in the last five, the Star Tribune reports. Among the latest victims was Cléo Thiberge, a 19-year-old college student from France who had just arrived in the Twin Cities when she was struck by a vehicle in St. Paul.

Pedestrian deaths are sharply on the rise in Minnesota, the Star Tribune reports. There have been 23 pedestrian deaths already this year, the deadliest of the last five years. Last year there were only 14 deaths at this time, the newspaper reports.

Among the most recent victims is a 19-year-old Macalester College student from France, Cleo Thiberge.

A rise in pedestrian deaths in the state is part of a national trend, MinnPost recently reported, citing a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report.

Macalester student from France struck by SUV dies of injuries

A 19-year-old Macalester College student from France, who was hit by a sport utility vehicle in St. Paul last week, has died from her injuries. Cleo Louise Marie Thiberge had been in St. Paul only about a day when she was struck at the intersection of Hamline and Grand avenues.
