Pedestrian killed by Northstar train identified by 'devastated' mom

He was hit by a westbound Northstar train near Elk River.

The pedestrian killed by a Northstar train while walking on the tracks Sunday evening has been identified by his mother.

Grayson Dow was with a friend walking along the westbound tracks near Elk River at around 6 p.m. Sunday when a Metro Transit Northstar train approached.

His friend was able to get out of the way, but Dow was hit by the train and died at the scene.

In a post on Facebook, Dow's mother confirmed it was her eldest son who had died, writing: "My oldest son was killed tonight, words can’t express how absolutely devastated I am!

"Grayson you are so loved!"

An investigation into his death has been launched, with Metro Transit assisting the Elk River Police Department and Sherburne County Sheriff's Office.

It's the second fatal incident involving a pedestrian and a Metro Transit train in the past month.

At the end of January, a 60-year-old woman died after being hit by a pair of Green Line light-rail trains in St. Paul.
