A pedestrian struck and killed by two vehicles in St. Louis Park on Thursday evening has been identified.
The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed that Daunte Jamal Moore, 15, of Hopkins, died in the collision near the Knollwood Mall, on Highway 7 at around 6:20 p.m.
An Acura driven by a 59-year-old man from Minnetonka was passing through the intersection on a green light when he hit Moore, who was in the left lane.
Moore was then pushed into eastbound traffic, where he was hit by a BMW driven by a 24-year-old man, also from Minnetonka.
Moore has been identified as a student at Hopkins West Junior High, with friends paying tribute to him on social media.
Pedestrian deaths fell last year
2017 was a safer year on the roads in Minnesota for pedestrians and, in fact, all road users.
The 38 pedestrian deaths last year was a huge drop from 2016, when 60 pedestrians were killed.
That was the highest number seen in the state since 1991.
