Pedestrian lying on northern Minnesota road killed by vehicle

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office says a pedestrian lying on a roadway in Northern Township near Bemidji died after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning. Authorities say Tyler Blake Cummings, 21, of Bemidji died after being struck by a car driven by Samantha Ruth Pender, 19, also of Bemidj, at about 3 a.m.

The northern Minnesota girl was sleeping in the back seat when she was ejected out a window that broke after the car went into the ditch and hit a sign. Forum Communications reports neither the 72-year-old driver or the other 18-year-old passenger realized the girl was missing until after they left the scene.

Man electrocuted in freak accident at northern Minnesota boatlift

A 22-year-old man died in northern Minnesota Tuesday after a freak accident on Lake Pokegama in Cohasset. The Itasca County Sheriff's Office says Robert Stoen of Owatonna was electrocuted after an extension cord fell into the water from a boatlift. Two other people were injured in the mishap.

Northern Minnesota county struggles with dirty diaper dumping

The Bemidji Pioneer reports adult diapers, catheters, syringes and other hazardous waste have been turning up in road ditches in Beltrami County over the past few years. The county has to hire specialists to dispose of the garbage, and it's racking up quite the bill, prompting officials to release this statement: "Please stop this behavior and do the right thing -- take your poopy diapers to the dumpsite."
